Oh wow! That last photo could be one from a glossy magazine! I love the colours of the fish tank and the subtle light it emits. What a wonderful idea. Thank you for showing the process of making your fish tank, I enjoyed that.

Thanks for the information about the tank. It turned out to look like a real tank in every way! I use the Walmart water all the time. I think that it is just as good as the more expensive stuff and way less money! Good luck in the contest!

Thanks so much! This was one of my initial ideas, and I am glad it worked out in the end. I just couldn't see the living room and kitchen floorplan without it.

I did a search for can pot lights and found this link! I had a problem with my water cracking in my pond I made and the clay seemed to 'bleed' the colors after time. (pics in my blog) I was told to pour just little bits of the resin water at a time. You poured yours all at once? I will have to check out the resin from walmart. I picked mine up at Joannes

Yep, all at once. I didn't want lines between the different layers. I just let it sit for two full days in a room we barely use. :D

Was the sand mixed in with the glue and paint or in layers?

I did both mixing and layering before the glue was set until I achieved the look I wanted.

Your aquarium is AMAZING!!! I have tried the same project, hit or miss... I have about 6 tries under my belt. I am onto number 7 now... thanks for the thread idea! I couldn't get the fish to a position that looks like they are floating. They all began to sink. Your work is stunning to say the least! Best aquarium in miniature on the web! and believe me I have looked.

Where did you purchase the container 5 for $10

It was a local hobby store - HobbyTown USA, I think. But, I've seen them online, too.

Ty for posting back. I have tried to find the plastic plants, but not much luck, everything I have found that is too big. Any suggestions besides what you posted in the tutorial? What kind of glue did you use with the sand. I am so excited to start. One other thing do you know of any other brand of acrylic water that works well? Our Walmarts don't sell it anymore. I have something called crystal lacquer that I use for water in my fountains and has worked good, but don't know how it will do with a thicker amount. Thank you for getting the creative juices flowing.

I get all my plants from A Little More in Miniatures, so I've not looked elsewhere. I have tried one other resin - the name escapes me at the moment, but it didn't work at all.

How wonderful! It's details like this that make a house or roombox come to life! Thanks also for the tips on getting tiny and MICRO tiny shells, finding less expensive "water", and your general creative process. I have a couple of tips for you on stirring resin: to avoid incorporating any more air than absolutely necessary, don't stir too vigorously. Stir in a figure 8 pattern and don't move the stirrer up and down at all. I have found that craft popsicle sticks work very well. When pouring into the final container, always pour slowly down the side of the container in a steady stream... No interruptions. If your project allows, tapping it gently on a flat surface should help any larger bubbles to rise to be dealt with as you did with a toothpick.

Thanks for the tips! :D I don't stir vigorously, but this resin seems to have bubbles as standard. It comes with a popsicle stick, too.

This is beautiful. It looks real. I now have to read it again. I love working with resin. I did a tiny fish in a bottle that I gave to my Niece. she loved it. The resin came out very clear. I used dried moss on the bottom. The resin brightened the moss and made it very green. I was happy with the effect. I want to try this. I have to see where you got that container. My Niece would go crazy for it.
